ชินซูวอน เริ่มต้นงานกำกับภาพยนตร์ครั้งแรก ตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 2010 จากเรื่อง Passerby#3 ภาพยนตร์อิสระที่เธออำนวยการสร้างเอง ซึ่งกลั่นกรองจากประสบการณ์จริง ในฐานะผู้หญิงวัยสามสิบที่พยายามมุ่งสู่อุตสาหกรรมเพื่อเป็นผู้กำกับภาพยนตร์ Passerby#3 ได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศ JJ-Star Award จากเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติเมืองจอนจู ครั้งที่ 11 และรางวัลชนะเลิศ Best Asian-Middle Eastern จากเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติโตเกียว ครั้งที่ 23

ผลงานลำดับถัดมาของเธอ คือภาพยนตร์สั้นเรื่อง Circle Line ซึ่งชนะเลิศรางวัล Canal+ สาขาภาพยนตร์สั้นยอดเยี่ยมจากงาน Cannes Critic’s Week ครั้งที่ 65

Pluto คือภาพยนตร์ขนาดยาวเรื่องที่สองของเธอ เป็นผลงานแนวระทึกขวัญปี ค.ศ. 2013 ที่สำรวจเรื่องราวการแข่งขันเข้าสู่ระบบการศึกษาของเกาหลี ออกฉายรอบปฐมทัศน์โลกที่เทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติปูซาน ครั้งที่ 17 และได้รับรางวัลชมเชยในสาย Generation 14 plus ที่เทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติเบอร์ลิน ครั้งที่ 63

ในปี ค.ศ. 2015 ภาพยนตร์เรื่องที่สามของเธออย่าง Madonna ได้รับเชิญให้เข้าฉายในสายการประกวดรอง Un Certain Regard ที่เทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติเมืองคานส์ ครั้งที่ 68 และภาพยนตร์เรื่องที่สี่ Glass Garden ได้รับเกียรติให้เป็นภาพยนตร์เปิดเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติปูซาน ครั้งที่ 22

ปี ค.ศ. 2020 Light for the Youth ภาพยนตร์ลำดับที่ห้าของเธอ ได้รับเชิญให้ฉายในสาย Panorama ที่เทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติปูซาน ครั้งที่ 24 นอกจากนี้ ในปีเดียวกัน หนังยังได้รับรางวัลขวัญใจผู้ชมที่เทศกาลภาพยนตร์ Florence Korean ครั้งที่ 18 อีกด้วย

Director Shin Su-Won was born at 1967 in South Korea. She graduated from German Language of Seoul National University and majored inscenario from Department of Film making in Korea National University of Arts (KNUA). She has worked as a teacher for a long time, but quit her job and start filming.

SHIN Su-won had begun working on her feature directorial debut since 2010. The self-produced independent film Passerby #3, released in 2010, was derived from her own experiences as a thirtysomething woman trying break into the industry and become a filmmaker. Passerby #3 won the JJ-Star Award at the 11th Jeonju International Film Festival and the Best Asian-Middle Eastern Film award at the 23rd Tokyo International Film Festival.

Her next project was the short film Circle Line, which won her the Canal+ Prize for best short film at the 65th Cannes Critic’s Week Film Festival..

Pluto, Shin's sophomore feature, was a 2013 thriller that explores the competitive nature of the Korean education system. It premiered at the 17th Busan International Film Festival, and Shin received a special mention at the Generation 14plus Section of the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2015, her third feature Madonna was invited to screen in the Un Certain Regard section of the 68th Cannes Film Festival and her fourth feature Glass Garden premiered as the opening film of the 22nd Busan International film festival.

In 2020, her fifth feature LIGHT FOR THE YOUTH was invited to screen in the Panorama section of the 24th Busan International Film Festival and won the audience award at the 18th Florence Korean Film Festival in 2020.
